What Is Interior Waterproofing?

Interior waterproofing is the alternative method of waterproofing your home. Although it is not technically waterproofing, it is water management. This is because it does not prevent the water from entering but it manages any water that does get inside. It is extremely effective and will do the job of keeping your basement dry.

It can be used when exterior waterproofing is not an option. Many times, especially in the Toronto area, homes can be too close in proximity to excavate the outside foundation walls. Also, there can be cases where hydro-static pressure or the type of soil will not allow for exterior waterproofing. It has a couple of other advantages as well. For one, it can be more economical. Usually interior waterproofing does not cost as much as the exterior method. Also, your landscaping will not be affected as no exterior excavation is required.

Interior Waterproofing Process

Interior waterproofing consists of a drainage system that will direct the water into a sump pump. A small trench will need to be dug out from the interior basement walls. A sump pump will be placed in the lowest area and will be connected to newly installed weeping tile. A gravel layer is then put over the weeping tile and a layer of concrete over that will cover up the trench. All of the water that enters the basement will be collected into the sump pump and pumped away from the home before it has the chance to do any kind of damage. Rooter-Man believes in quality and workmanship. Our fully licensed and insured technicians will not disappoint you. We will ensure that you choose the method of waterproofing that best works for you and your home. We are all about integrity and can assure you that the job is done right!

Foundation wall sealed with aqua-bloc waterproofing sealant

First things first, locate the source of the water intrusion and repair any foundation wall cracks that is allowing water to leak into your basement. We use industrial grade sealants such as Aqua-Bloc to do this to assure that can never leak again. Aqua-Bloc meets all requirements of CAN/CGSB 37.2. It is designed for protecting foundation walls from allowing water into the basement. It is long lasting, retains its flexible nature in the rough Canadian weather.

delta membrane installed

Once foundation cracks are fixed and secured, waterproofing membrane is attached to the wall securing it with clips for additional protection. This membrane directs water to the weeping tile. We use Delta Waterproofing Membranes for best results

If there is not already a weeping tile system in your home, we will install one at the bottom. Weeping tiles is a drainage pipe dug under the floor which is later covered in gravel. The gravel helps to direct water in to the weeping tile. Weeping tile system directs water to the sump pump pit. If you already do not have a sump pump system, we can install a pump that is require for your application. Sump pump is a system that collects accumulated water and turns on automatically when it reaches a certain level and pumps the water outside your home, away from the foundation walls.

Gravel is later finished with concrete installation on top. We assure the whole process is clean, tidy and even level with your floor.

If you choose to opt out from having a sump pump system, we can connect the weeping tiles to storm drain system where the collected water can be directed outside if possible.

if your walls are made up of concrete blocks, we will drill holes in the bottom to bleed any accumulated water into the weeping tiles as concrete blocks can fill up with water and it needs to escape.
